(Sept. 16, 2005) -- In an awful early morning crash today (Sept. 16), a woman driving north on Redondo Ave. near the U.S. mail facility (south of Willow St., north of Hill St.) was struck from behind and killed by a driver traveling at such a high rate of speed that the impact pushed the victim's car forward over three hundred feet.
LBPD says its preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect fled the scene on foot...and was apprehended by police in the area of Willow St. and Grand Ave. with the help of witnesses to the accident.
LBPD identifies the driver as Andre Archuleta, 23, of Lakewood.
LBFD pronounced the victim dead at the scene. Her identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
LBPD took suspect Archuleta to jail and booked him for vehicular manslaughter, felony hit and run...and felony driving under the influence.
