(Sept. 19, 2006) -- LBPD Detectives handling graffit cases have examined photos [not pixeled] of graffiti that recently victimized parts of ELB's Newcomb Academy and conveyed to LBReport.com that it was NOT gang-related graffiti.
Rather, it bears the earmarks of a "tagging crew," typically a roving band of non-territorial vandals, who strike targets of opportunity. The graffiti included the moniker (signature) of one individual in particular.
That egotism may qualify him as one of America's dumbest criminals. LBPD Public Information Officer Juan Gomez says Detectives has files of places where graffiti taggers have struck...and "when we apprehend him, we will tie him via his moniker to those incidents and charge him with multiple counts accordingly."
Much of the graffit at Newcomb had been removed by early moring Sept. 19 (with the rest obviously slated for removal).
As previously updated by LBReport.com,5th district Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske's office emailed us at dawn Sept. 19 to tell us: "My staff is responding on this issue today. We will get the graffiti removed, the banner replaced and organize a Public Safety Town Hall for 2nd week in October to discuss what can be done and to help set up a Neighborhood Watch in that area."
