(Sept. 6, 2009) -- Organizers say over 500 people attended Saturday's (Sept. 5) annual LB Poly High "Bun Run" fundraiser to raise money for the school's boys and girls cross-country running teams. An LBReport.com reader provided us with the photos below.
The day's events at Los Cerritos Park included a citizens' three mile cross-country run, a youth half-mile "bunny run" and a Poly High Cross Country Team Time Trial.

For nourishment: a pancake breakfast.
The event was a genuine grassroots effort. Parents were tasked to sell 20 "Bun Run" breakfast tickets/raffle tickets ($5 each) prior to the event; athletes who raised $100 received a free Poly cross-country T-shirt. Runners were instructed to bring the following: all boys = fruit; freshman girls = fruit; girls grades 10-12 = 1 gallon juice
And parents hauled tables & chairs, cooks & servers, aluminum trays and ice.
The LB Poly Cross-Country website says proceeds from the Bun Run event help support the Boys & Girls LB Poly cross-country programs by providing additional funds items including team travel, equipment, team dinners, assistant coaches and runners scholarships.
The event gives the school's runners an opportunity to set a "Base Line Time" for the three mile course (which becomes their minimum time to beat for future races during the school year).
The "Citizen's Run" began as a result of many family and community members showing up to support the teams; the event gives participants an opportunity to run an enjoyable race and support the school's team runners.
