(Sept. 8, 2014) -- A man was killed today [circumstances not yet clear] after he somehow ended up partially or entirely [unclear] beneath a Metro Blue Line train at its station on Pacific Ave. at the 4th-5th St. station in downtown Long Beach. The Long Beach Fire Department used its Jaws of Life and Urban Search/Rescue Team [crew has special expertise and equipment] to extricate the man who was trapped under the train. LBPD Firefighter-Paramedic/PIO Brian Fisk says the call came in at 12:15 p.m., six LBFD apparatuses responded; the extrication required about 20 minutes...and the man was transported to a hospital in critical condition. The L.A. County Corner's office indicates the man [an African-American man who appeared to be roughly in his 40's] did not survive [identification pending.] LBFD PIO Fisk says the circumstances of how the man wound up in/around/under the Blue Line train weren't immediately clear.
