UPDATE: LBPD Says Equipment Malfunction Caused Radio Communication Disruption, Says It Switched To Backup Plan And Public Wasn't In Jeopardy; Earlier: Multiple City of Long Beach Radio Communication Channels -- For Police, Fire, Airport And Other City Services -- Appeared To Suffer Disruption of Service Sunday Morning (Sept. 7), PD Says Its Operations Now Partially Restored

(Sept. 7, 10:55 a.m.) -- LBPD East Division Commander Paul LeBaron (a former LBPD PIO) tells LBREPORT.com that today's (Sept. 7) radio communication disruption appears to have been a technological malfunction which has now been fixed and LBPD was able to restore things to the way they are supposed to be.

Commander LeBaron says there is complex equipment in the system and it appears that a component malfunctioned. He said LBPD has a backup plan which it implemented; the incident didn't cause a delay in services for life threatening situations; and the public was never in any jeopardy.
