News Lakewood Village Community Watch Has Compiled These September Crime Stats For Their Neighborhood
[Editor's note/perspective] On Sept. 18, an estimated 200+ residents of East Long Beach's Lakewood Village neighborhod showed up for the monthly meeting of their community watch. The meeting took place just days after the City Council (including newly elected 5th dist. Councilmember Stacy Mungo) voted without dissent to approve a FY15 City Hall budget which didn't restore any of roughly 200 police officers that LB taxpayers received until budget actions under Mayor Foster and his supportive Council majority (budget votes Sept. 2009-2013). On motion by Councilwoman Suzie Price, the Council added $350,000 beyond the FY15 management/Mayor recommended budget for LBPD to deal with residential burglaries. Long Beach City Hall currently provides taxpayers with a budgeted police level available for citywide deployment (not counting officers contracted to/paid by and restricted to the Port, Airport, LBCC, LBUSD, LBTransit) roughly equivalent per capita to cutting about 30% of LAPD's officers. The Council can revisit the City's budget at any time.
