(Sept. 12, 2014, 12:55 p.m.) -- Long Beach area State Senator Rod Wright (D., LB-Inglewood) has been sentenced to 90 days in L.A. County jail and barred for life from holding elective office following his conviction earlier this year of living outside his district (Long Beach-Inglewood),

In a release, the L.A. County District Attorney's office says that Wright, 62, is also to complete 1,500 hours of community service and will be on probation for three years.

Prosecutors sought 180 days of jail time and 500 hours of comunity service. Judge Kathleen Kennedy ordered Wright to surrender himself on Oct. 31 to begin serving his jail time.

Wright, who was elected to the state Senate on Nov. 4, 2008, was convicted of misleading voters in the 25th Senate district on grounds his true residence was in Baldwin Hills which is in the 26th district. A jury in January found Wright guilty of all eight felony counts: two counts of perjury, one count of filing a false declaration of candidacy and five counts of fraudulent voting in elections in 2008 and 2009.

Wright has the right to appeal the convictions.

In 2012, voters reelected Wright to the newly drawn 35th state Senate seat district while he was facing the criminal charges. He's one of three state Senate Democrats who faced faced felony charges. The other two (on different charges and not yet tried) are state Senator Leland Yee (D., SF) and Ron Calderson (D., Montebello.)

Two prominent locally elected Dems -- Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D, Los Angeles) and state Senator Holly Mitchell (D., Los Angeles) -- were present in court for Wright's sentencing, reportedly to support Wright.

Meanwhile, the L.A. County District Attorney's office has asked that former L.A. City Councilman Richard Alarcon (who previously served in the CA State Senate as an elected Dem) be sentenced to 180 days in jail after his conviction on four felonies related to his residence location when he sought election to the L.A. City Council, (His sentencing is pending as he seeks a new trial.)
