(Sept. 19, 2015, 5:50 a.m.) -- Two people -- a girl (female juvenile) and a man (adult) -- were shot/wounded on Friday night (Sept. 18) in the area of Louise St. and Long Beach Blvd. when a suspect (male, age unclear) on a skateboard opened fire on them...and then fled on his skateboard.

The crime scene is very close to the area where a woman (adult) was shot/wounded a little less than a month ago (Aud. 22) in the area of Louise St./Cedar Ave.

LBPD overnight Watch Commander Lt. David Faris tells LBREPORT.com that at about 9:54 p.m. on Sept. 18, officers responded to a "shots fired" call in the area of LB Blvd and Louise St. and arrived to find two shooting victims: a female juvenile and a male adult. The shooting took place at the rear of the location when a suspect, described at this point only as a male Hispanic on a skateboard -- rolled up, began firing and fled northbound. LBPD's gang units responded and the location is ongoing.

[LBREPORT.com has also learned that at about 1:40 a.m. on Sept. 19, police returned to the area in response to a reported stabbing in the area of LB Blvd./Ellis St. LBPD a.m. Watch Commander Jeff Berkenkamp says that at about 1:37 a.m., officers responded and found a 50 year old man on a bus bench who said he woke up and realized he'd been stabbed; there's no suspect information and no idea exactly when it happened.]

By LBREPORT.com's unofficial tally, LB has responded to at least 18 shootings (hit + no hit) within a little less than a month (since Aug. 22), including four murders. Most of the shootings were in the 1st and 6th Council districts.

Just days ago on Sept. 16, a man (adult) was shot and killed -- pronounced dead at the scene -- in the residential neighborhood in the 1200 block of Chestnut Ave. (1st Council district), barely one mile north of Long Beach City Hall, That murder took place just hours after the City Council voted 9-0 to approve a FY16 budget (that Mayor Robert Garcia described as "responsible and balanced") that failed to restore funding to any part of LBPD's former field anti-gang unit and keeps LBPD's officer level for citywide deployment roughly equivalent per capita to L.A. cutting about 30% of LAPD's officers.

On Aug. 28, a man was shot and wounded in what appeared to be a "walk up" shooting in the area of 10th St./Virginia Court (between Magnolia and Chestnut Aves., 1st dist.) roughly a mile due north of City Hall (an incident being investigated as possibly gang related.)

On Sept. 15, the Council voted 9-0 to approve a FY16 budget, recommended by Mayor Garcia, which allocates no funding to restore any part of LBPD's former field anti-gang unit (cut in half in FY13, erased in FY14 and FY15 budgets), or any of roughly 200 officers erased in Mayor recommended/Council majority enacted budgets since 2009.

LBPD's former field anti-gang unit previously deployed 20 officers + 2 sergeants in gang impacted neighborhoods, where officers could observe conditions firsthand, work contacts and gather intelligence. LBPD still has a budgeted anti-gang unit (handling investigations, filing cases and the like) but not the field anti-gang unit it had previously.
