(Sept. 25, 2015) -- Saturday Sept. 26 is the annual Team Spirit Breast and Ovarian Cancer 5k walk and and 10k fun run. The event is now in its 16th year...with funds generated going to [website text] "enable Long Beach Memorial to offer patient care programs, such as a Support Group for gynecological cancers and unique peer mentoring through Women Guiding Women. Team Spirit Long Beach has also helped fund a full time social worker to assist patients through their treatment process." Team Spirit supports a number of services that can be viewed here. The event's website says: ...After being personally touched by both of these diseases, Team Spirit was formed in 2000 as a small grass roots organization. Team Spirit consisted of volunteer survivors and friends, working for those fighting, and in honor of those who have lost their battle. Team Spirit has collaborated with Memorial Medical Center Foundation at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center since its inception. [Scroll down for further.]
Yes, there's event day (early Saturday morning) registration ($70). Check-in and registraton opens at 6:30 a.m.; opening ceremonies start at 7:45 a.m.; the 10k fun run begins at 8:00 a.m., with two waves of 5k walkers at 8:25 a.m. and 8:30 a.m...and the event goes till about noon.
