(Sept. 11, 2018, 8:30 p.m.) -- Heads-up, LB taxpayers: a Sept. 15 deadline is approaching to submit a claim form for a LB city tax refund if you paid LB utility tax on telephone service between August 11, 2005 and Dec. 19, 2008 LBREPORT.com first reported the class action lawsuit settlement on April 23, 2018.

Many residents received a tiny mailed legalistic notice that some may have overlooked. Details on filing a claim by the Sept. 15 deadline are at this website link.

The website states:

The City of Long Beach has agreed to pay refunds of telephone taxes collected between August 11, 2005 and December 19, 2008 pursuant to a class action settlement.

Eligible Class Members can claim a refund of the following amounts without submitting documentation:

  • $46 for mobile telephone service
  • $27.50 for residential landline service and/or
  • $46 for business landline service

You can also claim a refund of up to 100% of the actual tax you paid by submitting copies of bills, or by providing consent for certain carriers to search for your tax payment history.
