(Sept. 30, 2007) -- LB's all-volunteer Friends of LB Animals held its 8th annual Walk for the Animals in Heartwell Park on Saturday Sept. 29...with two legged and four legged walkers on scene and supporters online raising money for the non-profit group's spay/neuter, humane education, adoption and shelter medical care programs.

...and this year's online turnout is newsworthy. Even couch-potatoes can participate, using an online click contribution form (link is still active).
Friends of LB Animals is an all-volunteer non-profit and in addition to working the morning of the event, supporters created their own donation web pages. (For FoLBA President Shirley Vaughan's page, click here.)
Writer/animal trainer/communicator C. Miriam Yarden, B.Sc. (Aurora Animal Behaviour) chats with LB Animal Control Bureau Director Wesley Moore.
Early morning arrivals enjoyed java from LB's "It's A Grind."
There were plenty of exhibit/vendor booths and displays.

"Wheely Willie" (celebrity paraplegic dog) is now 19 years old...and adored by his companion, writer and long-time animal advocate Deborah Turner. They're part of this video clip.
People (and at least one enthusiastic four-legged participant) entered prize drawings.
Herlinda Chico, Legislative Aide in the Office of Councilwoman Tonia Reyes Uranga walked (with a memorial sticker) to honor "Indy," a doggie who passed away last week owned by former Council staffer Sallie Rodman.
Ms. Chico wore a sticker recalling "Indy" and made remarks included in this video clip).
Friends of LB Animals President Shirley Vaughan (on stage with Vice Mayor Lowenthal and LB Animal Control director Moore) thanked everyone for participating [including online] in helping to fund spay/neuter, education and adoption efforts.
Also in comments to LBReport.com and from the podium (in this video clip), Vice Mayor Bonnie Lowenthal spoke fondly of former and current canines among the Lowenthal families. Also at the event: Councilman Patrick O'Donnell and staffers from other Council offices.
Capping podium events (in this video clip), First Lady Nancy Foster recalled the Fosters' beloved cat "Gizzy" (who passed away this year at age 17) and spoke of their new cat, "Noah," adopted from the LB Animal Shelter.
Mrs. Foster said "Noah" is learning to walk on a leash. [!] [Comment: If we get a chance to see THAT, we'll put it on video too.]
