Naples Gondolas Will Mainly Keep Going During Seawall Work

Work on the Naples Island canal seawall begins Nov. 6, but it will not hamper Mike O'Toole's popular Gondola Getaway until after the holiday boat parade.

O'Toole was notified of the timetable this week during a meeting with city planners.

He expects his gondolas will provide nearly 90 percent of the current ride, after the first phase of the canal is blocked off to all water vessels during restoration work on the seawall.

Pedestrian traffic will be blocked on Nov. 6, between The Toledo and Ravena -- one of the areas that draw visitors for the annual boat parade.

"There are plenty of other streets where people can view the holiday boats," said Maureen Poe
