LB Media as Sheep....and the Silence of the Lambs

If LBREPORT.com didn't tell you,
who would?
No one in LBREPORT.com's ownership, reporting or editorial decision-making has ties to development interests, advocacy groups or other special interests; or is seeking or receiving benefits of City development-related decisions; or holds a City Hall appointive position; or has contributed sums to political campaigns for Long Beach incumbents or challengers. LBREPORT.com isn't part of an out of town corporate cluster and no one its ownership, editorial or publishing decisionmaking has been part of the governing board of any City government body or other entity on whose policies we report.

LBREPORT.com is reader and advertiser supported. Support independent news in LB similar to the way people support NPR and PBS stations. We're not non-profit so it's not tax deductible but $49.95 (less than an annual dollar a week) helps keep us online.
(Sept. 14, 2021, 7:45 a.m.) -- LBEPORT;com proudly broke the story -- here and here documenting Mayor Robert Garcia's shameful role in denying public access to Biden-fronted anti-recall event. (Others lamely acknowledged that attending the event required some sort of approval but omitted the basic journalistic Ws of who did this and what terms it imposed on attendees.) Thank you, dear leakers, for helping us get that story and putting independent news coverage above Mayor's desires and Party politics.

We watched in amazement as some reporters pretended none of that existed as they regurgitated the self-congratulatory content dispensed of Biden and Garcia on Sept. 13. ,

LBREPORT.com is similarly proud to have defied a local area Republican Party code of silence when some Elder campaign geniuses prevented us and others from reporting what he said to his well-heeled contributors at his Aug. 29 LB fundraiser. That was a stupid move just like their failure to publicly state (in response to two of our still pending written inquiries) whether as Governor he would sign or veto SB 9 and SB 10. Mr. Elder speedily exited his Sept 13 Legends event (already behind schedule) before we could buttonhole him to ask that question. No problem. In less than 24 hours, we'll all know if his response does or doesn't matter any more.

LBREPORT.com was editorially outspoken in criticizing local electeds and DC bureaucrats who tried to hand us and other LA-LB-OC outlets orchestrated coverage of the LB Convention Center migrant minor site. There was absolutely no reason for "pooled" coverage of that LB event except to control coverage. We regret that DC and LB officialdom's actions curtailing independent reporting had so many local enablers.

LBREPORT.com refuses to comply as a sheep happily fleeced by self-serving politicians, candidates and officialdom. We don't flinch regardless of whose toes we step on. We're now entering our 22nd year [!] online (launched in August 2000), now one of America's longest continually operating stand-alone (not echoing a print outlet) online local news outlets. Others have come and gone or flipped ownership; some wish we'd just go away. The latter won't happen as long as we still have ability to do what we do. We remain deeply grateful to our savvy readership -- yes, that means you -- for supporting us.
