(April 26, 2021, 11:55 a.m.) -- After a more than 12 hour blackout on details of a shooting in the area of Cherry Ave./20th St., the Signal Hill Police Department says the shooting occurred in the 1900 block of St. Louis Ave.; it was a walk-up shooting; the victim is a male adult and was last reported in stable condition.

SHPD Senior Detective Maldonado says the motive isn't currently known and the shooting remains under investigation.

Efforts by LBREPORT.com (now in our 21st year as an independent news outlet) to confirm basic information about the shooting were met with delays leading to an information blackout.

SHPD's dispatch initially informed us that officers were still in the field (which we understand and respect.) We called back every few hours or so and eventually SHPD dispatch said they'd relay our contact information to the Watch Commander (which would be fine and we provided our info.) We then heard nothing, and at about 1 a.m. we called again amd were told the Watch Commander was instructed to refer all media inquries to a Sergeant/Detective who'd be handling all media inquires after office hours begin. .
