(August 3, 2019, 11:55 p.m.) -- In the hotly contested 2nd dist. City Council race, challenger Robert Fox ended the June 30 reporting period with the most cash on hand: $50,200...and $50k of it coming via a loan to his campaign personally and his formal fundraising starting in mid-July (after the June 30 filing period.)

Council incumbent Jeannine Pearce began her fundraising on April 1 and by June 30 had received $40,625 from prominent lobbying firms, politically connected left-progressives, a former Council ally/now state Senator, an LBCC Trustee and his Council-candidate spouse, and two City Council incumbents (one using his now-politically weaponized "officeholder account.") She ended the reporting period (after expenses) with $37,804 cash on hand and $2,050 in outstanding debts. Councilwoman Pearce's contributors included:

  • Councilman Rex Richardson ($400) using his "officeholder" (contributor funded) account.
[Ed. note: In 2015, a Council majority changed LB law to let incumbents triple the annual amounts they can collect in their contributor-funded "officeholder accounts" and in 2017 voted to politically weaponize their "officeholder accounts" to let incumbents use the sums to support political campaigns by others (including each other) for city, state or federal offices. The 2015 change was advanced by then-Councilwoman (now state Senator) Lena Gonzalez; the 2017 change was advanced by Councilwoman Pearce; Council majorities voted to make both changes over public testimony in opposition.]

  • State Senator Lena Gonzalez ($400) from her 2019 state Senate election committee.

  • Councilman Roberto Uranga ($100) using personal sums.

  • LB Firefighters Ass'n PAC ($400.)

  • LBCC Community College Trustee Uduak-Joe Ntuk ($400) from his 2018 election account

  • Ms. Tunua Thrash-Ntuk ($100), a candidate challenging 8th dist. Council incumbent Al Austin

  • Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon ($400)

2nd dist. Candidate Jeanette Barrera took in $2,135, spent $4,571 (major expense was for video, commercials, photos) and on June 30 had $1,419 cash on hand with $3,856 in outstanding debts.
