(August 31, 2020, 8:40 p.m.) -- A man (adult) was shot/wounded on Monday night (Aug. 31) along 14th St. (a block north of Anaheim St.) at LB Blvd.

It's the second shooting in LB's 6th Council district (Vice Mayor Dee Andrews) within 72 hours.

LBPD Administrator Karen Owens says (preliminary information) that on Aug 31 at about 11:15 pm, officers responded to the 300 block of East 14th Street regarding reports of a shooting. They canvassed the area. found evidence including bullet casings, showing thagt a shootingt ocurred.

"A short time later, officers responded to a local hospital regarding a report a of male adult gunshot victim later determined to be associated with the [earlier shooting] call. A witness with the victim at the time of the shooting stated they were waiting for a ride when an unknown suspect shot the victim "

LBPD says the victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and isn't cooperating with the investigation. "The investigation is ongoing and is believed to be gang related," Administrator Owens said.

As previously reported by LBREPORT.com, on August 28 three men were the victims of a walk-up attempted robbery/shooting in the 1000 block of Myrtle Ave. One of the three men was struck/wounded by gunfire; the bullets missed the other two. LBPD's preliminary information indicated that the three victims were standing on the sidewalk when two men (adults) walked up to them and attempted to rob them. One of the suspects brandished a firearm and began firing at the victims. The suspects were last seen running from the scene in an unknown direction.

LBPD's investigation is ongoing,

Council incumbent Andrews (along with now Mayor Garcia) are the only two remaining electeds who voted to defund LBPD's former field anti-gang unit among roughly 20% of LBPD's oikuce kevel for taxpayers (in budgets recommended 2009-2014 by then-Mayor Bob Foster).

Despite 2016 LB voter approval of the Measure A sales tax increase, Mayor Garcia and the current Council have restored only a fraction of the 200+ officers their Council votes erased.

The net result has left LB (LA County's second largest city) with a per capita level of police for taxpayers significantly below that provided by City Councils in Los Angeles, Santa Monica and Signal Hill.
