(Aug. 17, 2021, 8:10 a.m.) -- A midnight hour armed robbery hit the 7-11 location at Palo Verde/Atherton (border CD3/CD4, Price/Supernaw.)

LBPD overnight Watch Commander Paul Esko says that at about 12:30 a.m. on Aug. 17, a man (adult) armed with a handgun robbed the location and fled the area before officers arrived.

Yes, the same location has been hit before.,

On Feb. 9, 2019 in the 2 a.m. hour, three suspects (one armed with a short barreled shotgun and another with a knife) ook about $200 while an accomplice waited in a nearby getaway vehicle. A CSULB police office happened to be driving by, spotted the two suspects headed into the getaway car and pursued their vehicle onto the CSULB campus where the suspects crashed near the Parkside dorms and fled.

A nearby ELB 7-11 at Studebaker/Atherton (CD 3) was had an armed robbery on April 9, 2019 in the 1 a.m. hour (the loss was cigarettes.)

On July 19, 2021, the City Council voted (8-0, Austin absent) to approve a Mayor/Management labeled "Safety Recovery Plan" tied in part to a Mayor/management proposed FY22 budget. The plan doesn't restore any of roughly 230 erased officers defunded by previous and present Councils. It leaves LB taxpayers with a significantly thinner police level per capita than provided by City Councils in L.A., Santa Monica, Signal Hill.

Chart shows LB police level before Sept. 2020 defunding of 48 additional officers.

Under the $8.6 million "Safety Recovery Plan" LB taxpayers will spend roughly $4 million for non-police items labeled "prevention." It was supported by multiple public podium speakers (some of whom had ties to groups that stand to receive a share of the money.)

To date, no Long Beach neighborhood group has adopted a voted resolution calling on the Council to restore 48 officers defunded by the Council's Sept. 2020 FY 21 budget vote.
