(Aug. 18, 2021, 9:20 p.m.) -- Friends say a man was brutally attacked, beaten and stripped of his possessions while walking home from a pizza/sandwich eatery on Palo Verde Ave. just north of Stearns St...and he's now in a hospital ICU.

LBPD has confirmed parts of that narrative but not all of it, and says it's actively investigating what happened.

Responding to an inquiry from LBREPORT.com, LBPD Public Information Officer Richard Mejia says in preliminary information (Aug. 18) that on Aug. 16, a family member said another family member may have been assaulted on Aug. 15 and was at a local hospital.

[LBPD PIO email] Through further investigation, it was determined that on 8/15/21 at approximately 4:46 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Stearns St. and Carfax Avenue [three blocks west of Palo Verde) to assist the Long Beach Fire Department with a person down. With the information provided by Long Beach Fire, officers could not determine a crime had occurred.

Once it was reported to police, detectives immediately began investigating. They have canvassed the area multiple times and they are still in the process of contacting potential witnesses and collecting evidence.

Preliminary investigation thus far has revealed the male adult victim was last seen walking out of a bar in the area of Stearns Street and Palo Verde Avenue on 8/14/21 at approximately 10:00 p.m. [Emails to LBREPORT.com say he was walking home from Avenue Three Pizza, a family style pizza/sandwich location.]

?Due to the medical condition of the victim, officers have not been able to get a statement, and, at this time, it is not yet known how the victim sustained his injuries. The Police Department has been in constant contact with the family and while only little information is known at this time -- the Department will continue to investigate to determine if a crime occurred.

The area is a quiet well kept neighborhood in East Long Beach, just south of the southbound 405 freeway at Palo Verde Ave.

LBREPORT.com is actively pursuing his story and will update it with further as we learn it. We urge anyone with information to first call LBPD, then contact LBREPORT.com at mail@LBReport.com or via voice or text to 562 818-7651.
