(Aug. 12, 2021, 6:45 a.m.) -- In unified discriplined messaging, over two dozen supporters of a self-declared "Peoples Budget" demanded in Aug. 10 City Council budget proceedings that the Council defund 25% of LBPD's budget.
They said they speak for the "community." LBREPORT.com lets our readers hear what their salient advocates actually said. Not all speakers are in our 9:21 audio below; you'll hear salient representative speakers; multiple speakers also voiced similar viewsin Spanish; a "whoosh" indicates an audio edit. The speakers' words speak for themselves. Are these your views? Do these speakers, who said they speak for "the community," speak for you? Let us know via our Facebook platform or email at mail@lbreport.com. It's helpful to know in what Council district you live and major cross-streets. The individuals you'll hear are using their rights to advocate positions some will find extreme and irresponsible. But for the record: not one neigborhood group, or civic group, or business group came to the Aug. 10 City Council budget podium to advocate contrary views or support restoring any of roughly 230 officers that past and present Councils have already defunded. + | ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
To date, no Long Beach neighborhood group has adopted a voted resolution calling on the Council to restore 48 officers defunded by the Council's Sept. 2020 FY 21 budget vote.
