(Aug. 8, 2021, 4:45 a.m.) -- A pregnant woman and her unborn child are dead and the 26 year old driver of the vehicle in which they were riding is under arrest, booked by LBPD on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, DUI and child endangerment.

In a release, LBPD says that on Aug. 7 at about 11:36 a.m., officers responded to LB Blvd/52nd St. and found three vehicles involved a collision in which a GMC pickup truck had three injured occupants; a male adult, a female adult, and a male juvenile. "The female adult was suffering from critical injuries as a result of the collision, and the male adult and juvenile were suffering from non-life-threatening injures." LBFD transported all three occupants to a hospital.

[LBPD release text] Through their preliminary investigation, detectives learned a male adult was driving his 2006 GMC pickup truck [allegedly] at a high rate of speed southbound on Long Beach Boulevard with a female adult and 10-year-old male juvenile as passengers. The driver of the GMC was involved in a road rage incident with a second vehicle for several blocks as the driver of the second vehicle attempted to disengage from the road rage incident.

A 45-year-old adult male resident of Long Beach, who was not involved in the road rage incident, was inside a 2004 Toyota Corolla parked along the west curb south of Mountain View Street. As he pulled away from the curb, he collided with the GMC. The driver of the GMC lost control of his vehicle and struck a parked, unoccupied pickup truck just north of 52nd Street.

The adult female passenger was determined to be approximately 8 months pregnant, and both she and her unborn child succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. At this time, the female is only being identified as a 23-year-old resident of Long Beach pending notification to the next of kin by the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office.

The driver of the GMC was identified as Miguel Larios, a 26-year-old resident of Long Beach. He was arrested and booked for two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, one count of driving under the influence, and one count of child endangerment. Bail was set at $200,000.
