Info On Free Christmas Tree Recycling & Pick Up

(December 26, 2006) -- LB City Hall's Environmental Services Bureau offers two ways to recycle your Christmas tree:

Either drop off your tree at a free drop-off location (through January 8, listed below) OR City Hall's Enviro Services Bureau will pick it up on January 7 (caveat: follow their instructions, also below).

Here's the pertinent text from their very informative website:

      December 26, 2005 to January 8, 2006
You can drop off your Christmas tree Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., or Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at one of the following locations:

    Recycling Center
    5800 Atherton Blvd.
    East of Bellflower Blvd.

    North Police Substation

    and Roycroft Ave.

    Veterans Park
    28th St. at Pine Ave.

    Wardlow Park
    Monlaco Rd. at Rutgers Ave.

      Saturday, January 7, 2006

If you have City refuse service, put your Christmas tree out where your trash is normally collected by 7 a.m. on Saturday, January 7, and it will be recycled.

All decorations and stands MUST be removed. Trees over 12’ tall should be cut in half.

These tips can help reduce fire hazards in your home during the holidays:
      • Add water to your tree daily to keep moisture in the tree.
    • Never burn a tree in your fireplace.
    • Check tree lights to make sure there are no loose bulbs or wires.
    • Turn off all tree lights when you go to bed or when you leave the house.
    • Never use lighted candles on or near a tree.
