(Dec. 16, 2018) -- A woman was hit/wounded by gunfire on Saturday night on Atlantic Ave. south of South St. (8th dist.) It's the the second shooting along Atlantic Ave. in less than two weeks not far from the Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library which is just north of South St. (9th dist.)
LBPD Public Information Officer Alvino Herrera tells LBREPORT.com that at about 11:40 p.m. on Dec. 15, officers were sent to a local hospital where a woman told officers she was struck by gunfire in the area of South Street and Atlantic Avenue. Assisting officers responded to the area and found the crime scene on Atlantic Ave. south of South St. LBPD's preliminary investigation indicates the woman was outside when she was struck by gunfire from an unknown suspect and the victim couldn't provide any suspect information. LBPD's investigation is ongoing. It's the second shooting in less than two weeks in the vicinity of the Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library. On Dec. 4, a man was shot/wounded at about 9 a.m. in the 6000 block of Atlantic Ave. roughly two blocks north of South St. Last night's Dec. 15 shooting is the second NLB shooting in a little over 24 hours...although no person was struck in gunfire on Friday Dec. 14 at about 11:05 p.m. in the 200 block of 67th St. (north of Artesia Blvd., west of the L.A. river, east of Long Beach Blvd.) Officers found evidence of the shooting, located a parked vehicle with a firearm inside and arrested a 28 year old LB man, booked on suspicion of carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle and carrying a loaded firearm not registered to him.
