(December 14, 2019) -- LB's 1st City Council district has had its 4th shooting since 1st district voters elected Mary Zendejas to the Council (November 5 special election.) It's the second no-person-hit shooting since Zendejas (whose candidacy was financially boosted by the LB Police Officers union and Mayor Robert Garcia) was sworn into office on Dec. 3.

LBPD Public Information Officer Jennifer De Prez tells LBREPORT.com that a woman (adult) reported an unknown person shot at her unoccupioed parked vehicle overnight in the 1700 block of Pine Ave. (just south of PCH). Responding officers located bullet casings at the scene. No persons were reported hit in the overnight gunfire.

Less than a week ago on Dec. 9, LBPD located bullet casings but found no persons hit in the 1500 block of Chestnut Ave. On Nov. 22, a man was shot to death in the 1500 block of Henderson St. And on Nov. 20, a no-person-hit shooting occurred in the 1400 block of Chestnut Ave.

These shootings all took place in LB's Washington Middle School neighborhood.

From Nov. 1 through Dec. 1, LB's mainly working class 1st and adjacent 6th Council districts combined experienced a per capita shooting total that approached that of Chicago (LBREPORT.com coverage here.)

1st district Councilwoman Zendejas was elected with the financial support of the LB police union PAC. The police union PAC has also endorsed 6th district incumbent Vice Mayor/Councilman Dee Andrews in the March 2020 election cycle.
