(December 31, 2019, 7:55 a.m.) -- Updating a story previously reported by LBREPORT.com, we've learned that LBPD Detectives are investigating at least five and possibly as many as eight break-ins since Dec. 14-15 in the Clark/Spring retail center (2900 Clark Ave.) as possible commercial burglaries.

LBPD Public Information Officer Shaunna Dandoy tells LBREPORT.com (Dec. 30) that LBPD Detectives indicate they're investigating the two Dec. 27 break-ins (reported by LBREPORT.com here, broken glass front door with cash loss) as well as two similar break-ins with cash loss.on Dec. 22.

In addition, LBPD PIO Dandoy says Detectives indicate that on Dec. 14-15, four businesses in the commercial center had broken front doors with one of the four businesses reporting a loss. [The one business reporting a loss is also consistsnet with what LBREPORT.com previously reported.] PIO Dandoy indicates Detectives are currently investigating all four as possible burglaries [not just vandalism.]

Following the Dec. 27 break-in/burglary, the COPA Coffee Parlor stated on its Facebook page

We are still open!

& Another one. ‘tis the season to be jacking.

We were burglarized again last night.

Stealing from small business’ is the lowest of lows. Not only are you robbing from someone life dream but you are creating fear in the local community. It's absolutely shameful.

LBPD crime stats indicate that in the 11 months from January-November 2019, the area bounded by Spring St./Willow St. and Clark Ave./Bellfower Blvd. -- which has commercial businesses at all four of its major corners -- had 2 reported commercial burglaries (one in May, one in January.) It's not immediately clear if the December commercial burglaries are the only ones in this area in December.

In prior 12 month periods, LBPD crime stats indicate reported commercial burglaries below. Caveat: the Clark/Spring commercial center was undergoing major renovations for part of the 2017/2018 period. (Baja Sonora served its customers out of food trucks at the site.) The then-ongoing renovations preclude direct annual comparisons during this period.

2018 = 2
2017 = 5
2016 = 8
2015 = 4
2014 = 3
2013 = 1

Developing. Further as we learn it on LBREPORT.com
