(Dec. 30, 2019) -- An overnight-hours clerk at a NLB convenience store (area of Atlantic Ave./Market St., 8th district) was allegedly attacked by and injured by an armed man who demanded the business' money but managed to fight him off and disarm him...and held him until LBPD arrived.

LBPD Public Information Officer Jennifer De Prez says that on Dec. 27 at about 3:50 a,m., officers responded to a business in the area of Atlantic Ave./Market St. regarding a reported robbery taking place...and their preliminary investigation indicated that a suspect entered the business allegedly armed with a firearm and demanded money from the cash register.

Two employees were at the business and the suspect allegedly hit one of them with the firearm and a physical altercation followed in which the victim was injured but disarmed and detained the suspect until LBPD arrived.

Officers arrested suspect Jerry Lewis Kimbrough, 33, of LB, and booked him on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a firearm on a person, mayhem and second degree robbery. LBPD will present the case to the LA County DA's office which will decide what charges to pursue.
