(December 4, 2019) -- City management has sent the Mayor and City Council a memo previewing a physically revised and fiscally downsized Belmont Beach Aquatic Center.

Management has moved the proposed facility a bit north of its initially proposed site (which the memo says will avoid projected sea level rise), The revised building has a lower height (high roof enclosed bldg removed from design) and a lower cost, now estimated at $85 million although management acknowledges it's still about $25 million short of having that total in hand. Management's memo says it will continue to pursue funding opportunities including fundraising, grants and possibly engaging the L.A. 2028 Olympic organizing committee.

All bodies of water are now outdoors; the current pool will remain; recreational components have been added including a vortex pool (circulating water similar to a whirlpool), zip line, cascading waterfalls and splash pads.

Management's memo says "An elegant shade sail" has been incorporated in the design to "provide some respite from the summer sun."

The memo includes designs and other details here.
