Coastal Comm'n staff announces POSTPONEMENT (reasons not provided) of Dec. 10 hearing on proposed Belmont Beach Aquatics Center.

We'll update you when new hearing is scheduled. We’re a group of residents opposed to City Hall building the project just north of beach sand in SE LB because of future sea-level rise (the beach site is expected to flood in 30-50 years), the cost ($82 million, from Tidelands Funds) and the fact that there’s already an existing outdoor pool at this site installed 5 years ago when the old Belmont Pool was demolished in 2015. There are places in Long Beach with a greater need for recreation and sports facilities

The entire City of Long Beach has only 3 public pools. Long Beach needs more community pools, but not on the beach. This pool should be built in a neighborhood where more Long Beach residents can easily reach it to enjoy the benefits of swimming and recreation.

Paid for by Long Beach residents who think there’s a better place in Long Beach for a public pool. Contact us: ABetterPlaceForAPool@gmail.com

(December 5, 2020) -- Despite limited on-campus activities (K-5 preschool/day care/child development services), LBUSD's COVID 19 dashboard (at this link) shows 54 LBUSD staff, plus 22 students plus 7 visitors/vendors (a total of 83 persons) have been confirmed infected with COVID-19 since Sept 1.

The surge in confirmed LBUSD cases coincides with a surge in Long Beach and Los Angeles County cases and "positivity rate" (the percentage of those tested who test positive.)

LBREPORT has also learned that on December 3, parents/guardians of students at Mann Elemenary's (257 Coronado) Child Development Center and Prisk Elementary's Kids Club (2375 Fanwood) were the latest to receive notices of potential exposure of their child to COVID-19.

The letter to Mann and Prisk parents stated in part:

We are writing to inform you that we have recently received information about at least one confirmed case of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in a person on November 30th, 2020 [Prisk letter says Dec. 3]...We are informing you of this circumstance in an abundance of caution and to ask you to closely monitor your child’s health...
