(December 10, 2020, updated at:6:30 p.m. from 7:45 a.m. initial) --As previewed this morning by LBREPORT.com, LB got a GREAT view of the International Space Station as it orbited nearly directly above us at early evening today (Dec. 10.)
We nearly missed it, as high clouds obscured the early part of its pass-by. But as it got higher in the sky, it became clearly visible. LBREPORT.com streamed the ISS orbit LIVE on our Facebook page ; the video is embedded below for viewing on demand. > The spacecraft, traveling about 250 miles above the Earth, carries four astronauts launched and conveyed to the ISS in Elon Musk's Space X-designed/built capsule. The ISS rose in the NW skuy at 5:08 p.m. but in ELB was obscured by high clouds.) It traveled to the NE and became clear as it rose to a maximum 76 degrees at 5:11 p.m. before heading out of view about 5:14 p,m. The ISS' orbital speed is roughly 17,700 miles per hour. Its completes an Earth orbit roughly every 92 minutes and completes 15.54 orbits per Earth day. Below is the ground track for the orbit that passed mearl directly over Long Beach.

The ISS is a multinational project involving USA's NASA, Russia's Roscosmos, Japan's JAXA, Europe's ESA (Europe) and Canada's CSA. It's basically a microgravity and space environment research lab conducting experiments in astrobiology, astronomy, meteorology, physics, and other fields that dovetail with testing systems and equipment for possible long-term future missions to the Moon and Mars.
That tiny light orbiting above us carried four Space X Crew-1 members: Mission Commander/NASA astronaut Mike Hopkins; NASA astronaut/Pilot Victor Glover plus NASA Astronaut Shannon Walker and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency astronaut Soichi Noguchi.
