(Feb. 28, 2018 breaking, text updated Mar. 1, 2019) -- At late afternoon Thursday (Feb. 28), a woman (adult) and a 17 year old boy were shot; LBFD transported them to a hospital where the boy did not survive the double-shooting in the area of 11th St. between MLK and Lewis Aves (6th Council district.)
In a March 1 release, LBPD says the victims were in a garage facing an alley when an unknown number of suspects drove through the alley and fired multiple rounds at them. LBPD says the motive is "unknown at this time." In the release, LBPD says arriving officers found a 17 year old LB resident in the alley with a gunshot wound. The woman, a 34 year old LB resident, was found inside a residence with a gunshot wound to her leg. LBPD transported both victims to a hospital, where the juvenile victim was pronounced deceased. LBPD says its preliminary investigation indicates the victims were in a garage that faces the alley to the rear of a residence, and an unknown number of suspects driving a light-colored four-door sedan drove eastbound in the alley and fired multiple rounds at the victims. LBPD says a motive for the shooting "is unknown at this time" and its investigation is ongoing. It's LB's 6th homicide of 2019, the second of the year in LB's 6th Council district (the same number to date as the 1st district); the other two were in NLB (one each in districts 8 and 9.). Three days earlier (Feb. 25) gunfire flew at about 11:15 p.m. (casings found on sidewalk but no persons hit) along LB's 4th St. Retro Row just east of Cherry Ave. (2nd Council dist.) This followed five shootings (including a homicide, two hit shootings and two no-person-hit-shootings from 11 p.m. Feb. 23 through the 3 a.m. hour Sunday Feb. 24.
