(Feb 16, 2019, 6:30 a.m., updated 2:30 p.m.) -- A man (adult) was fatally stabbed on Friday night in the 900 block of E. Anaheim St. (west of MLK, near Myrtle Ave., 6th dist.) It's LB's 4th homicide of 2019, the first this year in the 6th district; two others were in the adjoining 1st district, another in the 8th district.)

Shortly after dawn, LBPD Watch Commander Lt. Melvin McGuire told LBREPORT.com that officers were sent to the area of Anaheim St./MLK at about 8:30 p.m. Feb. 15 in response to a battery-in-progress.

[UPDATED information/text from LBPD release] "When officers arrived, they located the victim nearby in the roadway with stab wounds to his upper torso. The Long Beach Fire Department responded to the scene and transported him to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. The victim's identification is not being released at this time due to pending notification to next of kin.

The preliminary investigation suggests the victim may have been in a verbal altercation with the suspects before the incident occurred.

The suspects were described as two males. The motive for the incident is unknown and the investigation remains ongoing." [end UPDATE]
