(Feb. 19, 2020, 10:30 p.m.) -- Gunfire flew at about 4 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 19) in or adjacent to the southern end of Veterans Park (6th Council district) in the Wrigley district.

In preliminary information, LBPD Public Information Officer Jennifer De Prez says officers responded to the 100 block of E. 28th in following reports of shots fired (precise crime scene not immediately available.)

LBPD PIO De Prez says officers found evidence of a shooting (gun casings) but didn't find any persons physically injured.

LBPD Gang Detectives responded (LBPD standard protocol for non-fatal shootings.); There's no immediate suspect information; LBPD's investigtion is ongoing.

The shooting occurred very near the Veterans Park Community Center, site of monthly meetings of the Wrigley Association and Wrigley Area Neighborhood Alliance and the location where candidates seeking election to the LB City Council (6th district) and LBUSD School Board participated in Feb. 3 candidate forums.

In the Council candidates forum, Vice Mayor Dee Andrews and challengers Suely Saro, Josephine Villasenor, Sharifah Hardie and Craig Ursuy (Ana Arcedidn't participate) were asked if they'd commit to support allocating 10% of Measure A's annual revenue ($6 million out of roughly $60+ million) to restore 30 police officers.
