THREE Shootings Within Just Over Three Hours Feb 20-21 Leave Three Persons Wounded, Residences/Vehicles Struck

(Feb. 21, 2021) -- Long Beach had three shootings within a little over three hours overnight (Sat Feb 20_sun Feb 21). LBPD PIO Allison Gallagher tells LBREPORT.com:
  • On Saturday night Feb. 20 at 11:25 p.m., a local hospital advised LBPD that a shooting victim had arrived: a man/adult with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. Police say he provided limited information but said he was he was shot while walking in the area of 23rd St/Pasadena Avenue (CD 6/Saro) although officers weren't able to locate a crime scene.

  • On Feb. 21 at about 1:55 a.m., officers responded to the 100 block of E. Plymouth Street (CD 8/Austin) regarding a shots call and found evidence of a shooting -- including casings and unoccupied vehicles -- struck by gunfire, but couldn't find victim(s) or suspect(s).

  • On Feb. 21 at about 2:30 a.m. officers responded to the 5500 block of Paramount Blvd. regarding a person-hit shooting and found two men (adults) with gunshot wounds. "The victims stated they were walking in the 5400 block of Paramount Boulevard when an unknown SUV approached them, an unknown male adult suspect got out of the vehicle, fired shots at them, and fled the area in the vehicle. The victims fled the area on foot." LBFD fire transported the victims to hospitals with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. Officers found evidence including casings and a nearby residence hit by gunfire..,and LBPD says it believes the motive is gang related.,

    Two days earlier (Feb 19), a man was shot/wounded at early evening in the neighborhood east of Orange Ave. and just north of South St. (CD 9/Richardson.) .

The City of Long Beach currently provides LB taxpayers with a budgeted sworn police level for routine citywide deployment of roughly 1.6 officers per thousand residents.)

By comparison, L.A and Santa Monica budget roughly 2.49 officers per thousand residents (not including LA Airport/Port police.) Signal Hill, surrounded by Long Beach, budgets roughly 3.15 sworn officers per thousand residents for its taxpayers. [** July 2020 update: LA's City Council adopted a FY202-21 budget that reduced funding for LAPD that will produce a budgeted level by summer 2021 of roughly 2.43 officers/thousand.]
