(Jan. 21, 2019, 5:15 a.m.) -- Someone fired shots at a person's residence in the Carmelitos housing project (900 block Via Wanda, 8th dist.) in the 10:00 p.m. hour on Sunday Jan. 20. LBPD's Watch Commander says officers responded and found bullet holes in the person's residence although no person appears to have been struck by the rounds.
The Carmelitos Housing project (north of Del Amo between Orange and Atlantic Aves.) is operated by the L.A. County Housing authority which offers apartments at rents based on tenant incomes; most of the units are taxpayer-subsidized for low income individuals/families; some are at market rates. CA Penal Code section 246 makes it a felony "to maliciously and willfully discharge a firearm" at an inhabited dwelling; it can bring three, five, or seven years in state prison, or six months to a year in County jail. The suspect(s) is currently at large and LBPD's investigation is ongoing. It's LB's 8th shooting since Jan. 1 (including one homicide in the 8th district.) |
