(Jan. 8, 2019, updated 3:10 p.m.) -- In a January 8 release, LBPD says (preliminary information) the driver of a white cargo van (similar to the example photos below) hit a 79 year old man walking across westbound South St. at Paramount Blvd. with a green pedestrian signal, then draggd the man about 900 feet northbound on Paramount Blvd. and fled the scene making no attempt to stop, render aid or notify police or paramedics.
LBPD says a short time later, a second vehicle didn't see the pedestrian in the roadway, tried to swerve but couldn't avoid striking the man; the second driver remained on scene and cooperated with LBPD's investigation. LBFD pronounced the pedestrian. Elias Sanchez, 79 of Long Beach, deceased at the scene. LBPD says the cargo van was described as a 70-80's Chevy or Ford white cargo/utility van with a ladder on the rear doors and green writing on the back of the vehicle. The ladder is similar to the type seen at the rear of RV trailers. Example photos are below. [Scroll down for further] |
