(Jan. 31, 2019, 6:40 p.m.) -- SCE says that a lightning strike [!] near the corner of Belmont Ave and Livingston Drive is what caused today's (Jan. 31) outage.
At its height, the outage affected nearly 1,500 customers (metered accounts) in an area north of Belmont Shore stretching from a block east of Redondo Ave. to Roswell Ave. from Vista St. to Livingston Dr. and affected the Broadway corridor within those areas. SCE spokesperson Mary Ann Millbourne tells LBREPORT.com that the lightning strike came a little before 11:00 a.m. (which would put it the same time as an intense storm hit Long Beach. See LBREPORT.com coverage here.) Ms. Millbourne says that at its height, the outage affected 1,489 customers but by the 6 p.m. hour, all but about 240 customers had their service restored (with the remainder expected to be restored in the coming hours.) The area affected at its height was bordered by roughly Vista St. on the north, Roswell Ave. on the east, Livingston Dr. on the south and Newport Ave. on the west. |
