(Jan. 17, 2020, 11:55 a.m.) -- Gunfire in LBPD's 4th Council district -- an individual allegedly firing rounds toward an occupied residence -- brought LBPD East Divsiion officers to the neighborhood east of Redondo Ave./south of PCH where a building resident gave officers a description of the suspect vehicle, responding officers radio'ed the description to assisting officers who spotted the vehicle, sought to make a vehicle stop in which the suspect refused to yield. The result was a pursuit in which the suspect crashed into another vehicle at Anaheim St./Long Beach Blvd. where officers took him into custody and recovered a handgun.

LBPD Public Information Officer Shaunna Dandoy tells LBREPORT.com at midmorning Jan, 17 that a preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect initiated a verbal altercation with the adult male victim and allegedly fired shots towards the residence. "The suspect and victim are not known to each other but share a common acquaintance," LBPD PIO Dandoy indicates.

LBPD overnight Watch Commander Lt. Robert Bernsen told LBREPORT.com that at about 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 16, officers responded to reports of shots fired in the area of Loma Ave./15th St. where a resident indicated someone fired shots at at a residence. Officers confirmed a crime scene (strike marks and casings), learned no persons were hit and relayed a description of the suspect vehicle to assisting officers in the field.

The assisting officers spotted the suspect vehicle, attempted to make a vehicle stop, but the suspect driver refused to yield and a pursuit followed. It ended when the suspect crashed into another vehicle at LB Blvd./Anaheim St. (a bad wreck but no persons critically injured.) Officers took the suspect into custody and recovered a handgun.

Officers too the suspect, a 19 year old Long Beach man, into custody and booked him on suspicion of attempted murder, felony reckless evading and armed criminal action (and LBPD's investigation is ongoing.) The District Attorney will decide what charges to file and prosecute.
