(Jan. 23, 2021) -- A man was shot to death at midafternoon Friday Jan. 22 in the 1500 block of Elm Ave. in LB's 1st Council district (Zendejas.) It's LB's 28th shooting crime scene since Jan. 1, the sixth in CD1 and LB's second homicide of 2021. CD1's total shootings (person hit or casings found/vehicle or building struck) are exceeded only by Vice Mayor Rex Richardson's CD9 with 7 to date (includikng LB's 1st homicide of 2021.)

In a release, LBPD states that officers arrived in the 1500 block of Elm Ave (between Anaheim St./:PCH) to find a man (adult) oan the ground in an alley with a gunshot wound. LBPD rendered medical aid until LBFD arrived and determined the man was deceased at the scene. He's identified as Egary Baide, 25, of Long Beach.

"Based on the preliminary investigation, the victim was in the alley when a shooting occurred. Detectives are searching the area for additional evidence and witnesses. The motive for the shooting has not been determined."

CD1 has been represented since mid-December by Councilwoman Mary Zendejas, elected with contributions from the LB police officers union (LBPOA PAC), LB Mayor Robert Garcia and immediate past CD1 incumbent (now state Senator) Lena Gonzaklez. The three joined in bypassing LB's campaign contribution limits to candidate campaigns by giving a total of $30,000 ($10,000 each) to the LB Firefighters union, which ran an independent campaign supporting Zendejas. (LBREPORT.com labeled this maneuver our 2019 "Outrage of the Year.")

A day before the most recent shooting, on Jan. 21 a man was shot/wounded at early evening Jan. 21 in tha area of Anaheim St./MLK Ave. (CD 6/Saro.)
