(Jan. 23, 2021) -- After at least three shootings yesterday (Jan, 22), LB had a midday shooting in the 2300 block of Lime Ave at midafernoon Saturday Jan. 23. It's a couple of blocks from one of three Jan 22 shootings that sent bullet rounds into an occupied residence.

LBPD Public Informatgion Officer Arantxa Chavarria says that on Jan. 23 at about 12:05 p.m., officers were sent to the 2300 block of Lime Avenue regarding a shots fired call and found a man (adult) with gunshot wounds inside a residence.

PIO Chavarria says officers learned through their preliminary investigation that the male victim was walking outside with a female victim when two male adults approached them, fired at them fled the scene in a dark colored sedan.

LBFD transported the male victim to a hospital in stable condition; the female victim wasn't hit. LBPD found casings in the area.

Long Beach had three shootings on Jan. 22, 2021, one of which sent bullets into a residence occupied by a woman in the 2400 block of Pasadena Ave. (about two blocks from the Jan 23 crime scene. (The female rssident wasn't hit.)

On Jan. 23, LBPD Tweeted a statemenmt indicating it will use "overtime funding to deploy additional units and increase visibility in the affected neighborhooids." (LBPD's statement diplomatically avoids mentioning that Mayor Garcia recommended, and the City Council voted (9-0) in Sept. 2020 to defund 48 officers on top of LBPD's already thinned police level (208 officers erased between 2009-2014 by a previous Council; subsequent Councils restored 22 officers that are now erased by the Sept. 2020 Council defunding.)
