(Jan. 16, 2021) -- Long Beach had three shootings within four four hours overnight -- the City's 20th, 21st and 22nd non-fatal shooting crime scenes since Jan. 1. (LB has had one fatal shooting thus far in 2021 in CD 9.) The most recent shootings were within working class sections of the city already disproportionately impacted by shootings; two were in parts of Central LB (western CD 4/Supernw and CD 1/Zendejas) with a third in NLB (CD 9.)

LBPD Public Information Officer Brandon Fahey tells LBREPORT.com:

  • On Jan. 15, 2021, at about 8:55 p.m., officers responded to a shots call in the 1400 block of St Louis Ave (CD 4/Supernaw) (a block north of Anaheim St. juat east of Cherry Ave.) (It's the same block where the body of a Cambodian boy (junveile) was found shot to death on Jan. 10; LBPD has arrested four suspects in the homicide that its investigators believes was gang related.) In the Jan. 15 shooting, a woman (adult) says she was inside her residence when she heard gunshots nearby and observed that her residence had been struck by gunfire and found evidence, including bullet casings, indicating that a shooting had occurred.

  • A little over two hours later on Jan. 15 at about 11:05 p.m., LBPD officers on patrol near the 800 block of Chestnut Avenue , heard shots nearby. and responded to the area of Magnolia Ave./10oth St. and found evidence of bullet casings indicating a shooting had occurred. No injured persons were visible or reported.

  • Less than two hours later on Jan. 16 at about 12:55 a.m., a woman in the 3300 block of De Forest Ave. (CD 9) told police she was inside her residence when she heard gunshots nearby and observed that her residence had been struck by gunfire. LBPD officers conducting the preliminary investigation determined that a white vehicle entered the area, two unknown male suspects exited the vehicle, fired shots, returned to the vehicle and fled the scene.

A fourth shooting also occurred, but under different circumstances. A man (adult) says he was in the area of 3300 block of Artesia Blvd. when a man (adult) exited a vehicle, assaulted him with a wrench and the incident escalated into a shooting. Officers found evidence includkng strike marks indicating a shooting had occurred. The vicim refused medical treatment at the scene.
