(January 8, 2021, 2:10 p.m.) -- A man and a woman were shot and wounded at mid-evening Wednesday (Jan. 7) while sitting in a vehicle parked in the 300 block of E. Coolidge St. (northern portion of NLB's Coolidge Triangke just south of 91 freeway and west of the 710 freeway.)

In preliminary information, LBPD Public Information Officer Allison Gallagher says the couple was approached by four men (adults) who shot at the victims and fled the scene. The victims suffered wounds described as "non-life-threatening" and officers located evidence including bullet casings.

It's LB's NINTH shooting since Jan. 1. Four were in Central LB's CD 6 (Saro), three were in NLB 's CD 9 (Richardson) and two were in LB's CD 1 (Zendejas),.

  • On Januuary 6, 2021 at about 10:25 p.m., officers responded to 1300 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue (OCD 6) regarding a shots call and found evidence, including bullet casings, indicating a shooting had occurred. No persons are believed hit.

  • A little less than two hours earlier on January 6 at about 8:35 p.m, officers were sent to the 2000 blcck of Atlantic Ave. (CD 6) regarding a shooting and found a man (adult) who said he was in his residence when he heard gunshots nearby and observed that his residnece had been struck by gunfire. Officers located evidence that a shooting had occurred.

  • About fifteen minutes earlier at about 8:20 p.m. on Jan. 6, LBPD detectives say a group of about 10 men and women (adults) were gathnered at a memorial at MLK Park (CD 6) when 2 male suspects approached them and began a verbal altercation. The suspects left the scene, but returned a few minutes later and opened fire towards the group. Suspects and victims fled the scene prior to officers' arrival, although one man suffered a non-life-threatening wound and took himself to a hospital; LBPD is investigating what took place as gang related.

Three days earlier on January 3, LB had four shooting crime scenes (info by Watch Commander Aaron Alu, preceded by a New Year's Day shooting (info by PIO Arantxa Chavarria.).

  • On January 3, 2021 at about 2:04 p.m., officers responded to the 1800 block of Hardwick Street (CD 9) regarding a vehicle that had a bullet hole on the top of the hood. There was no suspect information and it's possible this occurred during New Year’s Eve as the owner of the vehicle hadn't checked on his vehicle for the past several days. Evidence was collected and the investigation is ongoing.

  • On January 3, 2021 at about 4:09 p.m., officers responded to the 1400 block of West Parade Street (CD 1) regarding a shots calL and found an unoccupied parked vehicle with multiple bullet holes. Officers couldn't find the owner of the vehicle; there's no suspect information; evidence was collected and the investigation is ongoing.

  • On January 3, 2021 at about 4:35 p.m., officers responded to the 1400 block of Elm Avenue (CD 1) regarding a shots call, found a crime scene, but with no victim or suspect information. Officers collected evidence, notified gang detectives and the investigation is ongoing.

  • On January 3, 2021 at about 8:34 p.m., officers respondedd to the 2300 block of Olive Avenue (CD 6) regarding a shots call. Officers located a crime scene, but with no victim or suspect information; officers collected evidence and notikfied gang detectives and the investigation is ongoing.

  • And on New Year's Day January 1 at about 6:40 p.m., officers were sent to the 6900 block of LB Blvd (CD 9) for a shots call. They found a man (adult who waid he was in his vehicle when men (adults) approached him and fired at him. He immediately drove aay and wasn't physically injured; officers found evidence of a shooting, including casings; LBPD is investigating the incident as gang related.
