(July 4, 2019, 11:55 a.m.) -- As flashed on LBREPORT.com's front page and Facebook page with initial data within minutes, a 6.4 magnitude earthquake in the Mojave desert (about 11 miles ENE of Ridgecrest) at about 10:33:49 a.m. July 4th was felt as a rolling motion in Long Beach (and the L.A. area.)
Long Beach is roughly 130 miles (straight line, air miles) from the epicenter and 6.4 is a large quake. USGS says the quake occurred at a depth of about 5.4 miles. It was felt in the Bellflower/Spring area (said to be subject to liquefaction) as a rolling motion (felt like one was on a boat) and was strong enough to start light chandeliers swinging. The rolling continued for about 30 seconds although other (LB areas less subject to liquefaction may not have rolled as long.) [Scroll down for further.] |
