(July 24, 2020, 3:30 p.m.) -- In a very disturbing chain of events, a worker at a liquor store in the 300 block of W. Anaheim St. (just west of Magnolia Ave.) tried to stop a theft last night (July 23), grabbed onto the hood of the suspected thief's vehicle. In a release, LBPD says that with the store worker clinging to the vehicle's hood, the suspected thief drove for about three blocks before the worker was thrown off. (An initial LBOD release said its preliminary investigation indicated that the suspect drove about "three blocks before maneuvering the vehicle to get the pedestrian off the hood." .

LBPD says another driver stopped and sought to render aid to the store worker [LBREPORT.com considers him a Good Samaritan] and LBFD also responded and performed life saving measures...but the worker succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

LBPD says in a release that it believes the store worker died from injuries sustained when he was thrown from suspected thief's vehicle. (The LA County Coroner will determine the official cause of death.)

LBPD says it's now investigating the suspect's actions as a homicide/murder.

LBPD describes the suspect driver as a male Black, roughly 40 years old, about 5'7" tall, skinny build. short dark hair, and a moustache. He drove a silver four door ssdan.

The identity of the store worker, a man in his 50s, is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

LBREPORT.com will update this story as we learn more.
