(July 8, 2020, 9:40 a.m.) -- It was one of a string of murders and non-fatal shootings in LB's 6th and adjacent 1st Council districts: the June 29 fatal shooting of Soktear Phuy, 33, of LB in the 1400 block of Rose Ave. (6th Council district/Cambodia Town.)

Now LBPD has announced the arrest of three suspects on suspicion of that murder. In a release, it says its homicide detectives worked tirelessly on the investigation alongside detectives from LBPD's gang detail "who have been investigating a series of similar shootings in recent months, all believed to be gang related while involving many of the same suspects,"

In connection with the June 29 fatal shooting of Mr. Phuy on Rose Ave., LBPD says that between July 3 and 5 it located and arrested three suspects: a 20 year old LB man (booked on one count of murder); a 20 year old LB man (booked on one count murder and one count of possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute) and a 23 year old Hawaiian Gardens man (booked on one count of muerder and one count of attempted murder.)

LBPD will present the cases to the LA County District Attorney's office for filing consideration in the coming days. (If the DA files charges, we'll add the defendants' names.)

And LBPD's release adds: "Homicide and Gang detectives will continue their investigation until all involved suspects are brought to justice."
