(July 17, 2020) -- Bad news on the doorstep. The latest LB COVID-19 data include the following:

  • As of July 16, Long Beach's COVID "positivity rate" -- the percentage of persons taking a COVID-19 test who turn out to test positive -- has risen to 15.3%. LB's positivity rate has been above 15% since a July 14 news briefing. The figure was in single digits in April but by late May into June began rising. The higher positivity rate indicates a higher level of the virus is now ciculating in Long Beach (meaning the chances of exposure have increased.)

  • Updated daily hospitalizations have exceeded 100 since June 30. On June 15, the figure dailky figure was 77.

158 LB residents have died of COVID19. The death toll now includes a person in their 20s and two persons in their 40s. (The City says they had "underlying health conditions.")
