(July 16, 2020, 5:15 p.m.) -- After looters descended on Long Beach businesses from late afternoon May 31-into the June 1 overnight hours, and faced with public dismay when officers in the field didn't intervene to stop the looting, LBPD Chief Robert Luna publicly vowed that LBPD would identify the looters, find them, arrest them and bring them to justice.
Earlier today (July 16), LBPD issued a release:stating that a Looting Task Force (formed June 1) "comprised of a specialized team of detectives, officers, and administrative staff with the primary focus of identifying and locating suspects involved in recent incidents of looting and criminal activity related to civil unrest" used "video and photo evidence collected from various sources, including business and residential surveillance systems, social media, news coverage, and submissions to the LBPD’s online evidence portal, to identify suspects involved in looting and other criminal activity."
The release indicated that LBPD "has already arrested 14 suspects for various charges" and obtained 28 arrest warrants and submitted another 15 cases to the LA County District Attorney's office (which decides on filing felony charges.)

Three of the cases itemized below were among those listed in an initial LBPD release on arrests made but LBPD Public Information Officer/Ofcr. Ivan Garcia notes that those three cases, plus each of the other cases itemized below, were presented by LBPD to the DA's office which has sought arrest warrants in all of those cases. [DA-sought arrest warrants generally accompany filed criminal charges, although LBREPORT.com isn't reporting the arrestees' names until we're certain they're a current named defendant in a filed criminal case.] The serious charges in the itemized actions alleged speak for themselves.

[LBPD release text] The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) created a Looting Task Force in response to civil unrest that took place in the City of Long Beach on May 31, 2020.
The task force is comprised of a specialized team of detectives, officers, and administrative staff with the primary focus of identifying and locating suspects involved in recent incidents of looting and criminal activity related to civil unrest.
The task force has utilized video and photo evidence collected from various sources, including business and residential surveillance systems, social media, news coverage, and submissions to the LBPD’s online evidence portal, to identify suspects involved in looting and other criminal activity.
Formed on June 1, 2020, the task force operates Monday through Friday and has already arrested 14 suspects for various charges. Below is a summary of their charges:

In addition to these arrests and in the short time since operations began, 28 arrest warrants have been obtained. Another 15 cases have been submitted to the District Attorney for filing consideration of felony charges. Furthermore, members of the task force have impounded 12 vehicles and executed six search warrants. The task force will continue to work very closely with our Federal, State, and local law enforcement partners.
We promised our residents and business owners that the individuals who looted our businesses would be held accountable. The task force will continue to review all submitted photos and video evidence thoroughly. However, we ask Long Beach residents, business owners, and visitors to provide any photo or video evidence they may have. We also encourage anyone who may have been victim to a crime during this time to report it immediately.
