(Aug. 3, 2021, 7:20 a.m.) -- Non-elected LB Schools Sup't Baker Says NO to Parents Seeking Online Video Option To Reopened Classrooms, Will Offer Only "IndependentStudy" With No Details Yet Announced. LB Policy Setting School Board: Zzzzzzz....
(Aug. 3, 2021. 7:30 a.m.) -- In an Aug. 2 YouTube video, LB School Superintendent Jill Baker has reiterated a stance she previously implied (in a July 26 video reported by LBREPORT.com) that management will NOT offer parents the option of online video instruction if they don't want to put their children in classrooms without requiring vaccinations or a check of vaccination status for students and teachers despite the continuing COVID-19 pandemic and its delta variant surge (which health officials say is more contagious and in some cases more aggressive.)
"We will not be offering a hybrid program. We will be offering information soon about our transitional independent study option for Kindergarten through 12 grade independent study option for those families who do not want their students to return to in-person instruction," Dr. Baker said in her Aug. 2 video. The elected School board's next scheduled meeting is August 18 (preceded by an Aug. 17-18 workshop) with agendas not yet available but the Brown Act allows a school board majority to schedule a special meeting on 24 hours notice to discuss and/or take action on an individual item. CA Govt Code (Brown Act) 54956(a): "A special meeting may be called at any time by the presiding officer of the legislative body of a local agency, or by a majority of the members of the legislative body...The call and notice shall specify the time and place of the special meeting and the business to be transacted or discussed. No other business shall be considered at these meetings by the legislative body..." [Scroll down for further.] |
Under Baker's announced plan, in-person classes will resume at most schools on Aug. 31 (exceptions include Sato Academy of Mathematics and Science and California Academy of Mathematics and Science (CAMS) with scheduled starts Aug. 18.)
Vaccinations against polio, smallpox, diphtheria and other contagions have been required for years. Developing.
