(July 22, 2021) -- With Oakland now in the highest COVID (purple) category -- along with L.A. County -- Assemblywoman Buffy Wicks (D, Oakland) has called for mandatory vaccinations at schools, gyms, hosptals, workplaces, etc.

In a July 20 Tweet, Assemblywoman Wicks writes: "This is alarming: CA's new COVID surge would have put many counties back into the most restrictive tier under our reopening blueprint. It's time we do something uncomfortable: make vaccination mandatory—at schools, gyms, hospitals, workplaces, etc. "

This is alarming: CA's new COVID surge would have put many counties back into the most restrictive tier under our reopening blueprint.
Because *we all* deserve to live our daily lives free from the fear of contracting COVID — regardless of the irresponsible choices of others. Those choosing not to vaccinate *do not* have the right to endanger the lives & health of others. That choice comes w/ real consequences

The state legislature is currently in its summer recess until August 16, and when it returns Assemblywoman Wicks and others will have only a little over three weeks if they plan to take legislative actions (which might involve "gutting and amending" other bills.) In a July 22 telephone interview with @KNX1070 radio, Assemblywoman Wicks indicated her goal now is to "start a conversation" on the issue. (Efforts by LBREPORT.com to reach Assemblywoman Wicks via her press aide were unsuccessful.)
