(June 26, 2015) -- As seen LIVE (and on-demand below) on, a crowd of several hundred people gathered at LB's Civic Center Plaza shortly before dusk Friday (June 26) to celebrate the U.S. Supreme Court's opinion (5-4) a few hour earlier legalizing same sex marriage as a fundamental constitutional right (14th amendment, due process and equal protection clauses) and requiring states to allow and recognize same sex marriages nationwide. [ coverage including Court's full opinion here] was the only media outlet to provide start-to-finish LIVE (and now on-demand) video coverage of this event. Our video stream was provided by Joe Mello.

The rally (scheduled before the Court released its opinion, with plans to proceed regardless of the case outcome) was organized by the Long Beach Lambda Democratic Club, the LGBTQ Center of Long Beach and HRC OC/LB/PS. Speakers included Long Beach Law partners (and spouses) Stephanie Loftin and Reba Birmingham. Electeds speaking included Mayor Robert Garcia, Vice Mayor Suja Lowenthal, Councilmembers Lena Gonzalez, Suzie Price, Daryl Supernaw and Roberto Uranga (with spouse former Councilmember Tonia Uranga visible in the crowd.) Cong. ALan Lowenthal sent a statement read by field representative Helene Ansell. Former Assemblywoman/former Vice Mayor-Councilwoman Bonnie Lowenthal also attended.
