(June 11, 2019, updated from front page updates/coverage) -- The skillful work of an unidentified Long Beach 9-1-1 operator/dispatcher apparently played a significant role in leading LB Police Officers to locate and detain for LASD to take into custody a suspect in yesterday's (June 10) horrific shooting of an off-duty LASD Deputy in Alhambra (who at last report was in grave condition and on life support.)

As reported earlier today on LBREPORT.com, multiple law enforcement detectives -- wearing suits, not uninforms -- were visible in the 2400 block of Granada Ave. (one block west of Clark Ave., just south of 405 freeway) and LBPD confirmed that its officers had detained an individual in connection with the shooting.

At a 3 p.m. press briefing (VIDEO below), L.A. County Sheriff Alex Villanueva and Detectives provided stunning details, telling reporters that Rhett McKenzie Nelson, 30, of St. George, UT had stopped into church (not immediately identified) on Clark Ave. in Long Beach, telephoned his father and told his father he'd just committed a murder in southern CA. The father than alerted LBPD...and it appears that a LB 9-1-1 operator/dispatched skillfully executed a reverse contact on the phone number provided by father and located the suspect.

LBPD officers descended on the area, spotted a vehicle matching LASD's description and followed the suspect vehicle which pulled into a driveway in 2400 block of Granada Ave. LBPD made felony stop and detained the suspect, enabling LASD to take him into custody at about 1 p.m.

At the press briefing, it was revealed that LAPD is separately investigating whether the suspect may also be involved in a shooting/homicide yesterday in South Central LA's Newton Division.

Sheriff Villanueva said that Deputy Solano was getting an oil change for his ill mother's vehicle and while waiting went to a local fast food restaurant, where the suspect allegedly walked up and shot him in the head. Sheriff Villanueva said Deputy Solano was in grave condition and on life support.

LBREPORT.com is continuing to pursue LB aspects to this story and will report them as we learn them.
