The L.A. County Coroner's office (source: Lt. Smith) has identified the woman who perished as Rosalva Fierro, 49, with an unknown city of residence. An LBPD release (June 8) says she was wearing a seat belt while driving a 2003 GMC Yukon but suffered traumatic fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by LBFD.

The other driver involved was a 20 year old Long Beach man, driving a 2018 Nissan Titan pick-up truck that carried two men and two juvenile passengers (in addition to the driver.) Four of the five were wearing seat belts; all five were transported to hospitals.

In its release, LBPD states its officers were sent to the intersection at about 10:25 p.m. and learned the following:

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 20-year-old male resident of Long Beach, was driving the 2018 Nissan Titan east on Del Amo Boulevard attempting to accelerate through the intersection with Orange Avenue as the traffic control light was phasing to red. As the Nissan entered into the intersection, the 2003 GMC Yukon was broadsided, which was traveling north on Orange Avenue.

It was determined that the driver of the GMC was wearing her seatbelt, however sustained traumatic fatal injuries. Four of the five occupants in the Nissan were also wearing seatbelts and those occupants sustained a variety of injures.

The driver of the GMC is only being identified as a 49-year-old resident of Long Beach, pending notification to next of kin.

Both drivers had a valid driver's license. While at the hospital, driver of the Nissan provided a blood sample to determine if he was driving impaired. The investigation remains on-going.

Anyone who may have information regarding this incident is asked to call Long Beach Police Department Collision Investigation Detail Detective Steve Fox at (562) 570-7110.
